AI summary: Leads a core security engineering team building foundational infrastructure, frameworks, and libraries while coaching engineers and collaborating across stakeholders to ensure platform security and developer experience.

Description

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a core security engineering team that operates at the intersection of infrastructure and developer experience  — where your team’s code becomes the secure foundation for all of engineering. The team addresses systemic security vulnerabilities through standardised frameworks, libraries and infrastructure used by every engineering team in the company. This work is essential for ensuring platform availability, securing our license to operate in key markets, and keeping our customers’ data strictly private .

About us

With over 200 million customers in 50+ countries, Bolt is one of the fastest-growing tech companies in Europe and Africa. And it’s all thanks to our people.

We believe in creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome, regardless of race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or disability.

Our ultimate goal is to make cities for people, not cars, and we need your help to achieve this mission!

About the role

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of experienced engineers in designing, building, and scaling Bolt’s foundational engineering infrastructure. You’ll tackle exciting platform challenges — from addressing systemic vulnerabilities to developing secure frameworks and reusable libraries that empower over 600 engineers across the company to build secure software by default.

Your team will work closely with InfoSecurity, SRE, and Product Engineering stakeholders across the organisation to ensure robust protection, maintain developer productivity, and seamlessly integrate security into the software lifecycle at Bolt. You’ll guide the team toward a strategic vision focused on proactive defense, high engineering standards, and an exceptional developer experience for platforms safeguarding over 200 million customers and 4.5 million partners in more than 600 cities.

Your daily adventures will include:

  • Organising the team’s work, improving processes and collaboration, and ensuring high quality of deliverables..
  • Driving technical excellence, reliability, and adoption of Bolt’s core security frameworks, libraries, and infrastructure—the central mechanisms for eradicating systemic vulnerabilities company-wide.
  • Collaborating closely with stakeholders across teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Holding regular one-to-ones, coaching, and mentoring engineers to support their growth.
  • Preparing performance reviews, goal setting, training plans, budget allocation, headcount planning, and actively participating in recruitment.
  • Contributing to planning, roadmap discussions, and providing constructive feedback on future initiatives.

About you:

  • You have excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • You’re comfortable with modern programming languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Scala, or Java.
  • You have strong experience building scalable backend architecture, core infrastructure, or developer tooling. You have a genuine interest in cybersecurity and secure software design; direct experience implementing security frameworks, libraries, or compliance projects is a strong plus.
  • You have successfully built or managed internal platforms, libraries, frameworks, tooling, or large-scale projects requiring cross-team alignment.
  • You have 5+ years of hands-on software development experience and a deep understanding of writing readable, testable, maintainable, and performant code.
  • You have a proven ability to get things done, set a clear technical vision, establish effective engineering processes, and make data-driven decisions.

Experience is great, but what we really look for is drive, intelligence, and integrity. So even if you don’t tick every box, please consider applying if you feel you’re the kind of person described above!

Why you’ll love it here:

  • Play a direct role in shaping the user experience of one of Europe’s leading platforms.
